The Great North Swim 2019 will be happening this weekend on Windermere, England’s largest lake. It’s one of those events where lots of people come to watch and support their friends and loved ones who compete for their personal best timings swimming distances from 250m to 10km! It’s open water swimming, so wetsuits are mostly de rigueur, although there will also be the brave and hardy souls who will not require the extra protection! However, the lake is cold . . . brrr!
We have a number of swimmers as we do each year who stay with us. All of them, without exception, have been enthusiastic about this meet. I think about them when they are swimming – all the hard work they had put into training for the event, often as part of their charitable giving, and their upbeat and can do nature. It’s uplifting to see how much people care . . . and enjoy Nature into the bargain.
We have a couple of guest rooms available for Bed and Breakfast if you are contemplating visiting the Lakes this weekend. One of these rooms is The Dalesway, which overlooks The Dales Way on Brant Fell, the fell upon which Blenheim Lodge is perched.
The other is The Langdale, a large room with its far-reaching views of Lake Windermere and the fells.
