Wildlife
The Lake District teams with outdoor and indoor attractions to see and enjoy. For some suggestions about what to see in our beautiful National Park, see our information on Historic Homes & Gardens, Wildlife, Lakes & Landscapes, Villages or Attractions.
Ospreys
Espy ospreys from Lower and Upper viewpoints in Dodd Wood above Bassenthwaite Lake. From the Lower viewpoint, it is possible to see ospreys fishing at Derwentwater.
Leighton Moss
RSPB Leighton Moss boasts Northwest England’s largest reed bed, and has trails and hides to observe special denizens such as bitterns, bearded tits and marsh harriers.
Grey Seals
South Walney Nature Reserve boasts Cumbria’s only grey seal colony. Hides allow visitors to observe wildfowl and a live feeder maps the movement of tracked gulls.
St Bees Head
Enjoy a romantic stroll on the beach at St Bees. Or walk along a cliff top path at St Bees Head to observe Northwest England’s largest seabird colony. As with all Nature Reserves, each season has its own highlights.
