What’s on this weekend in the Lakes? Well, a new event to be precise. It will be held in Windermere, the only town in the Lake District to host a railway line connecting this National Park to the rest of Britain and hence to the rest of the world. What a fitting place it is then to host a new German Christmas Market this weekend! Blenheim Lodge, located in pretty Bowness-on-Windermere, is only a mile’s stone throw from Windermere.
Windermere is hosting a brand new German-themed Christmas Market with nearly 40 festive stalls selling fantastic seasonal gifts from knitwear to soaps with a Germanic flair. There will be delicious food and drink offerings available all day, as well as live music from Burneside Brass Band and Windermere and Bowness Community Choir, along with great street entertainment. Santa has been asked to visit this weekend and he has promised to bring his very own grotto and reindeers in a specially designed Windermere Ja Christmas Grotto!
There is so much to see and do in the area, so why not make a weekend of it and book accommodation in the area? The festivities will continue into the evening in the bars and pubs of Windermere.

The market will be held on Saturday, 10th December, between 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on Sunday, 11th December, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. As this is in part a street market, a couple of streets in Windermere will be closed to motor traffic.

Meanwhile, in Bowness-on-Windermere, Windermere Cruises is setting sail on Santa Cruises on Lake Windermere on 10th and 11th December. Just five minutes’ walk from our Bowness guest house, Blenheim Lodge is conveniently situated to Lake Windermere and, indeed, practically all our guest and public rooms have wonderful views over to the Lake and fells. Here is the blurb taken from santa-cruise-windermere.
Join Santa and his helpers on board this magical 90-minute cruise through a wintry Windermere wonderland. Aboard a heated modern launch, Santa will be there throughout the cruise to join in with the fun and deliver a wrapped present to each child. With Christmas games, music and loads of festive cheer, it’s a great cruise from Windermere Lake Cruises that the whole family can enjoy. Adults can also enjoy sherry and mince pies.
We have late availability at Blenheim Lodge Guest House this weekend, so do contact us for bed and breakfast accommodation if you are looking for a nice relaxing break. Prices range from £63 per night for single en-suite rooms with Lake and fell views and from £90 per night for double en-suite rooms with Lake and/or fell views. We also have a private on-site car park for guests who are driving. Alternatively, it is a 5-minute ride from Windermere railway station if you are taking on a train.
There’s lots to do in the Lakes besides these events. And, of course, there is always the whole national park to explore and enjoy! Come take a break at our hidden peaceful retreat of a B&B, and recharge you batteries before the rush of Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Look forward to meeting you!
