From our Bowness Bed and Breakfast, Blenheim Lodge, it is only a 5-minute walk to Bowness Bay, so we often take our Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Zack, out for his daily walks by the water. We have had lovely days of clear blue skies recently, and I decided to accompany Hubby and Zack for their evening walk around Bowness Bay where we saw lots of visiting and resident birds at Windermere lakeshore.

As you can see, there is lots of birdlife on the lakeshore. I shot another photograph of a couple of swans paddling off into the sunset after preening their feathers by Bowness Pier.

Bowness Bay is home to Windermere Lake Cruises, which operates ferries that crisscross the Lake. These vessels range in size as you can see in the photo below. There are also smaller boats, such as canoes and kayaks that visitors can rent by the hour.

Bowness is a picturesque and convenient village to stay in when visiting the Lakes. There are good transport links between this bustling place and other villages and towns in the Lake District. As a hub, Bowness also offers lots of amenities ranging from restaurants and shops, attractions and activities, and services such as beauty salons, a post office, a cinema and bank which are easily accessible in the main tourist area of this pretty village.
