Are you wondering what you might do in February or March in the Lake District? Well, the Lake District is home to 41,000 residents so its towns, villages and hamlets are living, working ones: they don’t shut down because it is Winter.

People go to work, kids go to school, and there are the usual amenities and places to shop, many of the latter being independently owned concerns full of quirky, different, and often handmade products to buy.

A plethora of shops, cafes, coffee and tea rooms, restaurants and pubs line the streets and small alleyways of Bowness-on-Windermere.

Eateries and local pubs abound, with many serving good to excellent quality locally sourced food and drink.

We often walk into Keswick centre when we are in the town. Bryson's is well-known in Keswick and has recently opened a shop in Bowness-on-Windermere, about a 3-minute walk from our guest house, Blenheim Lodge.
