New Year 2016 is almost upon us, so if you are looking for a peaceful relaxing break away from your normal routine in the beautiful Lake District National Park, do come visit with us at Blenheim Lodge B&B in Bowness-on-Windermere. Despite the best intentions of UK weather forecasters warning potential visitors to the Lakes about rain and floods, Bowness-on-Windermere, where our B&B is located, and nearby local towns such Windermere and Ambleside have NOT been flooded out. As for Blenheim Lodge, our location on a hilltop incline has meant that any rainfall runs downhill towards Lake Windermere, thus ensuring that we are never flooded.

Today has been an absolutely gorgeous day in Bowness-on-Windermere, with pretty sunshine illuminating our lovely village. I was corresponding with one of our guests this morning and sent him a couple of pictures of the room and the view from it that I took today.

Later in the day, we drove to Ulverston, home of the Laurel and Hardy Museum. Ulverston is where Stan Laurel was born. I used to watch Laurel and Hardy films as a kid and absolutely loved the comedy and fun of the comic duo. But our final destination was to be a little further afield of Ulverston: we were taking our elderly dog for hydrotherapy by Lindal-in-Furness. Zack, our beloved Pyrenean Mountain Dog, is now 8.5 years of age and suffering from all the usual complaints of an ageing body. This was his third hydrotherapy session. He does not love it, but he tolerates it and it seems to be doing him some good.

The day remained bright and lovely with sunshine slanting between treetops onto open fields and fells. Any flood water we saw on our way to Lindal was contained between the south bank of Lake Windermere and open farm fields. Travel was easy, with no surface water at all.

For the intrepid traveller who does not mind some potential rain and wind – events which occur often enough anywhere throughout the UK – please do not allow dismal media reports put you off! The Lake District is a wonderful place to be any time of the year. People live and work here year round and shops, restaurants, attractions, etc. will be open as usual. Do come and join us for a fabulous New Year break in the Lakes – see in the New Year with us! We have rooms available for double, single, twin and triple occupancy. AND special offers too!
