Although the Lake District is predominantly rural in character, there is always something happening here. Visitors to the Lake District will therefore find more than enough things to see and do to keep them well occupied. That is, aside from simply relaxing in this pulchritudinous region of Cumbria.

Over the coming weeks, the Lake District will host a number of events which should appeal to a wide range of interests.

For cyclists, there are Sky Rides to enjoy with strangers and friends alike, with or without guides. For example, on 22nd July 2014, there is the ‘Windermere – The Shore Line – Sky Ride’ with the starting point just 3 miles from our B&B, Blenheim Lodge (www.goskyride.com/Search/Details?eventid=39836). Brockhole Visitor Centre itself is worth a visit as it holds a variety of events. Visitors can drive or take a bus there from Bowness-on-Windermere; or, in the summer, they can also take a ferry ride there from Bowness Pier, just 5 minutes’ walk from Blenheim Lodge Guest House.

Many race goers come to the Lake District for the Cartmel Races. Cartmel is a pretty village about 15 minutes’ drive from Bleheim Lodge, and is also home to L’enclume, the famous Michelin restaurant owned by Simon Rogan. The weekend of 19th July  2014 will see many folk enjoying ‘horse racing, refreshments, a funfair and numerous trade stands at the summer barbecue racedays which promise to bring some fine racing to Cartmel on the edge of the Lake District. Now in its 11th year, the jumping bonanza on Saturday July 19th 2014 looks set to be Cartmel Racecourse’s best yet.’ (www.yourguide2thelakedistrict.co.uk/cartmel-races-barbecue-raceday-i292.html)

The excitement of Cartmel Races can be experienced at Cartmel Racecourse in Cartmel, a lovely medieval village located 15 minutes' drive from Blenheim Lodge. (Photo courtesy of www.yourguide2thelakedistrict.co.uk/cartmel-races-august-bank-holiday-meetings-2012-i174.html.)
