2013 seemed to stretch long before us when we first entered it in January; yet, within days, 2013 will come to a close and we will soon be bringing in the new year of 2014. I remember when we first saw in the New Year in the Lake District. That was in 2003. I had expected ice and snow and a picture postcard scene then, but nothing out of the ordinary happened weather-wise until 31st December: then, it snowed. Now Bowness-on-Windermere looked like a picture postcard village with white trimmings! It was a wonderful and picturesque way of seeing in the New Year in the Lake District.
We shared our first Lakeland New Year with many guests to our Bed and Breakfast, Blenheim Lodge; and, since then, we have shared many more. This year, we are open again from 28th December to guests who would like to visit the Lake District over the New Year period. Our guest house is a short walk from the centre of Bowness-on-Windermere and Lake Windermere itself, so guests need not drive if they prefer not to. The usual town facilities and attractions are open, such as restaurants, pubs, shops, Lake cruises, the steam train, etc. The Lake District National Park is not a summer resort but is lived in year round by its residents, so most of the attractions and all its amenities will be open as usual.
If you are still searching for Bed and Breakfast accommodation over the New Year period, we would be happy to oblige. We have double, single, twin and triple rooms, all with Lake Windermere and/or fell views. All our bedrooms are different in size and decor, and many feature antique furniture, including a romantic antique 4-poster bed. If you contact us direct by phone or email, we are also able to offer discounted rates.
The Lake District is stunning to behold in all seasons, and we hope that you will come and join its admiring throng. Come for the scenery, the activities, the food, the camaraderie, the fun! Come and see in the New Year by Lake Windermere and have a wonderful relaxing break or retreat before returning to the humdrum and busyness of work in 2014!
Blenheim Lodge . . . panoramic Lake views, peace and tranquillity, nestled against acres of beautiful fields and woodlands, in the heart of the English Lake District National Park.’
