The Lake District is Cumbria’s jewel in the crown. Located within easy reach of conurbations nearby, the Lakes offer a fantastic retreat to suit all budgets and styles of relaxation: from roaming around towns and villages, eating, shopping, and sightseeing to engaging in various activities, such as walking, climbing, riding, boating, fishing, etc. There is much to do in the Lake District, and visitors can either take it slowly and relax, or be as active as possible during their weekend breaks.

Of course many people go away in order to get away from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. It is a time to leave the stresses and strains of busyness behind, and the Lake District is well endowed to help this happen. The open scenery of the Lakes is so astounding in its beauty and grandeur that it will surely help to rejuvenate the spirit of the most jaded individual on a short break of 2 nights or more over a weekend.

Getting away to the Lake District gives one an opportunity to get close to nature without quite leaving civilisation behind if that is what one wishes. For example, a fisherman could visit some of the most pristine Lakeland waters in peaceful rural settings and even use the corporate fishing permits that we offer free to our guests in order to enjoy his sport. Come time for dinner, he might then like to visit a town or village close by for a nice meal. The Lake District is not huge, measuring only about 885 square miles. Roads are good and thus there is easy access getting from one place to another within a short space of time.

Many anglers fish exclusively for Ratherheath's substantial head of carp. These fish currently top out around the twenty pound mark but there are large numbers in the low to mid teens. During the warmer months Ratherheath carp are invariably on the surface and stalking with floating baits is a favourite and often very successful tactic. At times catches of up to ten fish in a session are not uncommon. At other times location is the key to success and weather conditions play a large part in where the bulk of the fish will be found. Weekends are often a time for unwinding. At Blenheim Lodge, we provide a quiet retreat for our guests, away from noisy main road traffic, crowds, and late night revellers. There are lovely walks and viewpoints accessed via a farm gate a literal minute’s walk from our front door. Acres of woodlands and fields beckon where guests may walk and absorb the peacefulness that surrounds them. Indeed, one of our rooms, The Dalesway, enjoys this countryside aspect.

We find that enquiries for accommodation often include requests for rooms with Lake views. Blenheim Lodge has 10 rooms with views of Lake Windermere and the fells, some panoramic. These include rooms for single, double, twin and triple occupancy. My favourite room, however, is the one with woodland views because of its serene pastoral feel.
