Be Romantic!

The Lake District is a perfect place for couples to enjoy and lose themselves in each other. And the scenery cannot be beaten either! What a great way to spend a romantic Valentine’s Day weekend retreat in the Lake District together!

Sail into the sunset!

Enjoy trips on the ferries crisscrossing England’s largest lake. Our Bowness Bed and Breakfast overlooks the Lake Windermere, and this photo of a Windermere ferry sailing past was shot from The Attic bedroom at Blenheim Lodge. Windermere Lake Cruises operates the ferries all year round, except for Christmas Day, and their ferries sail both the length and breadth of the lake from a number of piers and jetties dotted along its shores.

Walk hand in hand: together, forever!

Do you both enjoy walking? Why not explore the Lake District’s famous fells together? It doesn’t need to be a huge hike if you prefer to go for a gentle stroll. There are lots of choices for all sorts of trekking abilities or none.

Have fun, discover, and enjoy!

Do you prefer indoor attractions or outdoor activities? Is either of you interested in history, historical homes, and estates? Do you enjoy shopping or sports activities? Or might you perhaps simply enjoy wandering about and coming upon new places and things you hadn’t expected to find, just like our own discovery seen in the picture below?

prince charles' visit, lake district national park
Did you know that Prince Charles visited Watendlath, a National Trust hamlet, on 22nd May 1995? We never expected to find this stone plaque in all our wanderings around the Lakes.

There are, as you can imagine, lots of things to see and do in the Lake District National Park. How about a visit to Lake Windermere? It’s a 5-minute stroll from our B&B to its shores. Cockshott Point, a quieter lakeside walk in Bowness, is very pretty and has direct access to the lakeshore. Moreover, it offers the perfect picturesque amble for a romantic Valentine’s Day break in the Lake District!

Dine together, laugh together, enjoy together!

There are plenty of quaint cafes, pretty tearooms, restaurants, and ye olde worlde and gastro pubs to suit all tastes. Why not stop for tea and scones, a small repast, or that 3-course meal wherever your fancy takes you?

Take a piece of your romantic Valentine’s Day weekend retreat home with you!

As a token of your romantic Valentine’s Day weekend retreat, why not take a slice of the Lake District back home with you? Grasmere, an easy drive or bus ride from us at Blenheim Lodge in Bowness on Windermere, is famed for its gingerbread made to an age-old recipe. It’ll make a tasty reminder of your romantic Valentine’s Day weekend retreat in the Lake District National Park.
