August: we are near the end of Summer 2016, and if you have yet to take a break, why not make a last minute dash for a Summer holiday in the Lakes? The Lake District National Park is beautiful all year round, and Summer sees the verdant green of foliage and bright sparks of floral displays which conjure up cheerful images of happy holidays by picturesque lakes overlooked by high mountains, or fells as we call them here.
Blenheim Lodge, our B&B, itself snuggles into fell side. The fell we are on is Brantfell, and our house backs right into open fell and woodlands. From our doorstep, it is but a half-minute stroll to the gates that lead onto woodland trails, including The Dales Way long distance footpath. Brantfell’s summit is 40 minutes’ walk from our house, although there are other viewpoints on the fell which are situated closer to us, such as Post Knott, which is 20 minutes’ walk and Biskey Howe, which is approximately 10 minutes’ away.
A 5-minute walk downhill takes one into Bowness centre, a bustling hub of local amenities, and Lake Windermere, where one may board various ferries that sail to various parts of the lake. Take a break of two or more days, as there is so much to explore: not just locally, but also to other areas of the Lakes, from quiet hidden tarns and tiny hamlets to larger market towns, such as Keswick, and popular tourist destinations, such as Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere.
Blenheim Lodge is situated in Bowness-on-Windermere, which has excellent transport links. But if you wish to visit areas not normally covered by local buses, we can help arrange return tours from our house. Try one of our packages, such as our Explore & Stay package, which starts from only £75 per person, including breakfast. You’ll be amazed just how much you’ll fall in love with the Lakes!
