Summer arrived with a flourish of bright sunshine on a windless day on Saturday just past. Such lovely weather even occasioned mention in the UK’s national papers, so it must have been something to behold indeed in terms of the British obsession with the weather. The good weather has continued throughout the week in the Lake District National Park, and looks set to continue for the foreseeable future based on what we have experienced lately. Even our foreign visitors have commented on the wonderful weather we are enjoying. We currently have an Australian couple staying with us, who today prefaced their morning greeting with ‘Another lovely day!’

The Lake District National Park is very green, and all that soft beauty can only be the result of a decent amount of precipitation. Without the rain, there would, of course, be no bodies of water. And the Lake District has bodies of water a plenty! There are 16 main lakes in the Lake District National Park, plus tarns and some meres that are as yet unnamed!

For a relaxing day out, why not picnic by a picturesque lake on a summer’s day? Imagine sprawling by a lakeshore, sandwich in hand, whilst absorbing the peace and quiet of some truly stunning scenery. You might even get some local residents for company!

June is a particularly good time for exploring the fells of the Lake District too. It is not too hot nor cold, with temperatures that make excellent walking weather. The current weather is dry and virtually windless, which is great for making tracks through woodlands, fields, and fells. The Dalesway, located on Brantfell and only a minute’s stroll from our front door at Blenheim Lodge, is a good starting point for stretching one’s legs on arrival at our guest house, particularly after a long train or car journey that has entailed sitting for some period.

This weekend sees us with some last minute rooms to let. All our rooms have a view of Lake Windermere or of the fells. Why not take a little break and come visit with us? We are sure you will find an escape to the Lakes a welcome diversion from daily life.
