Blenheim Lodge Guest feedback

My wife and I enjoyed a three-day stay at the quiet Blenheim Lodge at the end of August and feel that we needed to make the quality of our experience known to others.

We received a welcoming tea and biscuits to begin our 3 days of absolute pleasure and relaxation in all respects and intend to return to the same ground floor room. The room was between the reception area and the lounge so we expected to hear some sounds, but we didn't. It was quality furnished as was the rest of the house; quiet and comfortable, clean and very convenient with a relaxing view.

The service was more than we expected and the warm layout in the breakfast room made it an in inviting option.

There is an incline to the guest house but this was a feature we felt to be part of the Lake District environment and wouldn't have wanted it any other way, I am partially paralysed on my right side but was still able to enjoy what was for us a 15-minute walk to the Town.

The owners are lovely welcoming people and went out their way to make sure we had everything we needed. I was very impressed with the way they looked after all the guests and we also appreciated the generous breakfasts - a great way to start the day if you are planning a long walk over the hills.

I thought the price of the room represented good value for money, especially given that it included the use of the pool and spa at a nearby hotel. If you are looking for a nice, clean and friendly place to stay in the Lake District, I would thoroughly recommend the Blenheim Lodge.

Nothing, and l do mean nothing is too much trouble for Janz and Robert Duncan, from adding an extra guest (our daughter) to sorting out a romantic sailing yacht and evening meal served on board. The Lodge wraps itself around you like a favourite cardigan, welcoming you with its warmth and comfort, from the cosy lounge to the elegant breakfast room and on up to the luxurious bedrooms with those views! Choosing from the extensive breakfast menu is a delight and the local food is cooked and served to perfection.

The Lodge is steeped in a tranquil air that takes all the cares from you the moment you arrive, and it is like leaving a family member behind when you leave. Just a matter of yards from the rear of the Lodge is a wooded walk where we encountered deer grazing in the evening, and views that make you proud to live in England. For the most complete, welcoming and utterly delightful stay you cannot find a better host and hostess than Robert and Janz Duncan. We are regular visitors to the Lakes: Keswick, Ambleside, Coniston, etc. This Lodge cannot be bettered.

Make sure you know that like many places in the hills it is a steep gradient to the Lodge but GOOD access to all areas, and a good sized marked car park with an easily worked parking system in place. So close to town and steamers etc. but you have to face the short sharp climb up back. Free country club membership for extra value.

On our first ever visit to the Lake District, we stayed in The Poppies room at Blenheim Lodge. I believe it's fair to say that staying here was the best decision we could possibly have made.

There were so many hotel/guest houses to choose from and not knowing the area made the whole thing a little daunting. I called Janz to ask about the accommodation and she was more than obliging. In fact, when I told her that it was an anniversary trip she went completely out of her way to ensure we had a wonderfully romantic weekend. Janz made several honest suggestions and (although it rained bitterly) we had a fantastic time.

On the day we accidentally took the wrong train and ended up on Grange Over Sands. Janz was kind enough to stay up for us, direct the taxi driver and welcome us with late night tea!

The Poppies room was an en-suite double bedroom with plenty of storage and a flat screen television - who needs any more? It is the smallest of Janz's rooms, but that was ideal for us as we wanted to spend our time outside (a nature trail situated just at the door step helped).

The service was great and quite unique to other hotels I had stayed in. Fresh towels were laid out (for every night of our stay) along with unique toiletries and an excellently cooked breakfast. My partner and I felt very cared for and we are making plans to visit again.

We have just spent the Easter weekend at Blenheim Lodge and it was all we could have expected. We were especially after a lake view and the view from our room didn't disappoint.

The welcome was warm and the room was a perfect base for 3 days spent exploring the Lakes. The room was clean and spacious and the view was exactly as it was described. The Lodge is a 5/10 minute walk away from the town so it is quiet yet not far from all the restaurants and shops that you could need. Did I mention the breakfast?? We didn't need any lunch... it really hit the spot.

The owners genuinely had a helpful approach and nothing was too much trouble for them. If you are looking for a relaxing atmosphere and a good central location (and a proper full English Breakfast) then I thoroughly recommend this B&B.

This visit was our second, we have another coming up, and we have nothing but praise for this B&B. Janz and Robert go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Let us give you an example.

Our first visit was July '07 after visiting Jordan. The plane from London was held up by bad weather and as a result we were late getting to Manchester Airport where after the attack on Glasgow airport, the "lockdown" caused confusion with the shuttle to Bowness. Janz spent ages phoning around to ensure we were picked up. We finally arrived at Blenheim after 2am and Janz was there to greet us, help us to our room and provide a much appreciated cuppa and biscuits.

We are seniors and we would recommend this place to anyone. The hill is unavoidable if you want to enjoy the wonderful views; there's always a taxi to save walking!! Bowness is an ideal centre to soak up the outstanding beauty of the Lake District.

Where to start! Blenheim Lodge holds a wonderful charm about it from the moment you step inside. That combined with the warm welcome you receive from your hosts, Janz and Robert, add to making it a perfect combination of hospitality and comfort.

We were given a friendly welcome over a nice cup of tea in the lounge, giving us a chance to relax after the drive up to the Lakes. The views from the lounge alone are lovely and you could easily pass your time sitting at the bay window gazing lazily out towards the horizon of the Lake and snow capped mountain tops.

Our room (The Coniston) was nicely decorated and in keeping with the character of the gorgeous and comfy four poster bed, that Janz explained to us had been so lovingly upholstered with beautiful raw silk that gave it a very sumptuous feel. The views from the room are outstanding and Blenheim Lodge is in one of the best prime positions for views, if this is what you are after - so nice waking up in a four poster and opening the curtains to see that scenery!

Both Janz and Robert are extremely friendly and helpful and gave us plenty of help in pointing us in the right direction for walks and different routes into the village. They were very accommodating and Janz thought nothing of offering to wash some muddy jeans that my fiancé and I had after a walk as she was putting on a laundry wash.

Our room was cleaned each day and was spotless. Breakfast in the morning was full of plenty of choice and and as soon as we sat down Robert would come out of the kitchen to offer us tea or coffee and also come back with toast for us while we had our chosen breakfast. The food was cooked lovely, and a nice way to line your tum ready for the day ahead.

We would definitely return back to the Lakes, Blenheim Lodge and the its wonderful hosts.

A wonderful, friendly home away from home! On a rainy afternoon, I was greeted with hot tea and a personal chat that warmed me right up inside.

When I mentioned it was my first trip to the Lake District, I got tips about things to do and getting about; and, among other things, directions on how to get up to the viewing point just behind the guest house - a mere ten minutes' walk up to a completely breathtaking panorama, perfect if you (like me) arrive late in the day but still want to get a taste of it before bed.

As I often travel alone, I'm used to being shunted aside up in an attic, with leftover furniture. At Blenheim Lodge, however, the single traveller gets a fab surprise - the singles may be a little smaller, but here they are just as nice as the larger rooms, and just as thoughtfully put together.

(Since April, I've been back once and on my second stay, I was in another room, every bit as nice.) The Lakeside views from my room were so stunning that TV news and weather forecasts were forgotten - I just had to remain at my window, watching the hills on the other side of Lake Windermere go to sleep. I can't think of a better place to go for a relaxing holiday.

Robert and Janz were perfect hosts, assisting us greatly with arranging driving tours and other activities around town. My own room at the top of the house had a stunning, panaramic view of the Lake. My parents' room had a lovely bay window with a comfy day bed in front where we would enjoy our afternoon tea and biscuits (provided in each room) while enjoying a different but equally beautiful view of the Lake, distant hills and local gardens.

The Lodge is just a few minutes walk from the centre of town which provides a nice buffer from the traffic and car noise of the main street. It also backs right onto a park providing easy access to walking trails and some incredible vistas of the surrounding area for those who are up for a little hiking.
